Jewish Vienna

A WALK THROUGH THE CITY CENTRE OF VIENNA

THE CHRONICLE OF VIENNA

also includes the important, eventful and painful history of its Jewish inhabitants.

ON THIS WALK

... we follow the traces of Jewish life and culture of the past and present.

From the hardly known Jewish town of the Middle Ages and
the "court factors" of the 17th and 18th centuries,
to the cultural heyday of the turn of the century,
to the diverse Jewish heritage that has survived in Vienna.

No Schmus* or Stuss*, but a little linguistic excursion into the Yiddish of the charming Viennese dialect as well as anecdotes and stories await you.

*Schmus = useless talk, chatter / *Stuss = nonsense (borrowing from western Yiddish “shmues” and “shtus”)
