Jewish Museum Judenplatz

MEDIEVAL SEARCH FOR TRACES

THE JEWISH COMMUNITY OF THE MIDDLE AGES

was one of the largest in Europe. From the 13th century onwards, a Jewish quarter with a magnificent synagogue was located where Judenplatz is today.

Vienna developed into a center of Jewish knowledge, where important rabbis were active.
In 1420/1421 Albrecht II ordered the expulsion and murder of the Jewish population ("Geserah").

THE PERMANENT EXHIBITION

in the Jewish Museum on Judenplatz offers an exciting journey back in time to medieval Vienna and reconstructs the former Jewish quarter,

its synagogue and

the then flourishing community life.

Tour price excludes museum admission.
